Why I've started blogging?

Why did I start blogging? It's probably easier to answer the question once I've explained a little about myself. My working life has always been events focused, my degree in Events Management kick started my career which has consisted of running events, planning weddings, experiential marketing and now my current role of Campaigns and Events within Internal Communications. I work within a large corporate company, where Internal Comms sits in the PR Team. This means I am surrounded by talented individuals who can make words sing off a page, create content from photographs to films that are thought provoking and powerful. Whilst I love my role within events, it's meant my writing skills are certainly in need of work and I wanted to challenge myself to write, create content, build something myself, out of work and in my own time.

With this in mind, I started thinking about the way in which we consume information today. It was only a few years ago that people read their daily news in a newpaper and waited for further updates with the scheduled news on television at 12pm6pm and 10pm. Now, with the internet, the variety of social channels and smart phones, we are suddenly able to have real time information, 24/7. Not only do we look to the likes of BBC, ITV or Sky to get our information but also our friends, family and those we follow online. I can often find out something first on Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat. Everyone using social media is now a journalist, a creator of content, able to share information, share their opinion and have their say.

To me, this is a positive for the most part and consuming news and information online has become my normal. I love reading blogs, watching vlogs and have a serious Instagram addiction, following beautiful accounts from fashion to travel. So it seemed like an obvious choice to have a whirl at writing about travel, anyone who knows me, knows that I love a holiday, combine this with my love of photography (via Insta) and here I am.

As this is me attempting to up skill myself, I decided I would create a name for my Instagram and blog that meant I didn't have to use my actual name. As She Travels was born on October 3rd and so far, its been interesting. Firstly, I can't believe how hard it is to write a blog, I have a new found respect for all bloggers, creating content isn't easy. Initially my approach was to share my opinions/reviews of places I had visited, but actually reading it back, it's dull. Why would anyone care? Who is my audience? What do they gain from reading it? You can probably tell, it's not going as well as I'd hoped.

I thought my blog could draw on holidays and my travels from the past (literally last month) but it's actually not that easy. I've decided, rather than giving up at the first hurdle, I will look to create content as and when it happens. I'm lucky enough to have a few weekends away between now and Christmas, so I'm going to do my best to write something worth reading.

In the meantime, I feel my ability to take photos is better than my writing, so take a look at my instagram 'as_shetravels' and let me know what you think.

Writing tips welcome, thanks for reading (Hi Mum)
